What Is Metaverse? Learn Through Examples!

Hi there everybody! Today, we are going to be talking about that one word or maybe the term that you must have heard more than ten times in the past a few days especially if you are active on social media, work on technical aspects of things in any capacity whatsoever or have interest in staying up to date with the latest tech trends; METAVERSE. As much as we are excited about whatever it has to offer to the world, we feel that too much technology can result in disruption of the normal world but let’s see how that will unfold for all of us.

The conversation actually started when Facebook announced that they are rebranding the corporate name of Facebook which is no Meta and that the names of the social media apps will remain the same. Honestly speaking, it did come as a surprise to a lot of people around the globe and while Facebook had to rebrand themselves to make an attempt to clear their name from a couple of things, not many people are quite happy with the new name – mainly because it is very basic given that it is a corporate name of something as big as Facebook, you know.

That being said, metaverse is something that is about to change the way we live our lives and to be honest, at this point, we don’t know if that will be a good thing or a bad thing. So, apart from metaverse being the topic of discussion literally everywhere from work places, houses, memes and so much more, metaverse is something serious and super virtual. Something that don’t require you to leave your house but a virtual entity of you will be attending meetings, going to places and doing things even without you leaving the place at all. As exciting as it sounds right now, we feel that it is also scary – that technology is improving so hard, that avatars will now become a regular thing.

what-is-metaverse

First things first; as per Google the basic definition of the metaverse is that it is a hypothesized iteration of the internet that supports persistent online 3-D virtual environments through conventional personal computing, as well as virtual and augmented reality headsets. You can access the metaverse through all sorts of smart / digital gadgets like smart watches and other wearable tech like smart glasses, smart phones, laptops etc. You can work and work out too, you can socialize, shop and do all sorts of other fun things.

Let’s now have a look at a couple of examples of the metaverse to understand how it works!

GAMING & METAVERSE:

virtual-game

If you are into gaming or know someone who is, you would know that there are many interactive games available to play for the gamers such as Fortnite, Minecraft, Second Life, Roblox etc. These games allow the people to interact as well as collaborate and attend events online involving real life money in order to purchase virtual goods and even services for that matter. So, if you know any such games, there are chances that you are somewhat familiar with the concept of metaverse already.

TV & METAVERSE:

Ready-Player-One

Always remember that no matter what type of technology gets improved / upgraded or is introduced to the world, the information will be used to create content for the TV screens and cinemas as well. You must have seen many seasons on Netflix etc. that have a character or entity that appears as something much more than just 3D and we would like to share here a great example of it; Ready Player One. The story revolves around a person creating virtual reality and hiding the keys to his fortune in it for a player to find after his death.

FACEBOOK’S HORIZON & METAVERSE:

You can trust Facebook always to introduce something that convinces us to believe that we need it and their Horizon is one such thing that involves the metaverse in its hardcore form. Despite being in beta, Facebook explains Horizon as a social experience that allows the users to explore, play and create (their own world and make it perfect – or not). And honestly speaking, it feels like something we all will be very interested to explore for very obvious reasons.

IMVU & METAVERSE:

IMVU-Metaverse

IMVU happens to be an online metaverse + social networking site where the world is virtual, but the feels are very real. We feel that, that is something out there for all of you to check out to understand or at least know what the metaverse is all about – from gaming to talking to people and interacting with them on a personal level, we can bet that you will enjoy IMVU as much as we did when we heard about it for the first time.

That being said; we would like you guys to explore more about metaverse and how it can benefit you in the longer run and we are sure that you will find your reason to love it.
