Starting from the beginning, we would like to discuss how the logo was created and by whom. We would like you all to make sure that you read the blog till the end to know more about Nike’s logo.
Okay so, first things first; one of Nike’s co-founders, Phil Knight made a plan to launch his own business somewhere in 1971 and for obvious reasons, he wanted a new logo design to represent his business. So, he got in touch with a graphic design student at Portland State University, Carolyn Davidson. At that time, Davidson got $35 only to create the logo for Knight but we must mention here that back then, it was a pretty decent amount to get a logo designed. It is said that out of a couple of logos that were designed by Davidson, Knight went for the famous Swoosh logo design and said something along the lines that he did not love the logo as such but it would grow on him with the passage of time. And here we are, with the Swoosh logo design that represents a number of things with so much subtlety such as speed, athleticism, etc.

We feel that whenever we come across the famous Swoosh, we think of movement, we think of speed and we think of progress but there is more to the Swoosh and we are sure that you would be very much interested in knowing all about it. For example; the logo was inspired by the wings of the Greek goddess Nike that represent victory. Moreover, the wings also depict triumph and when you consider all the factors related to sports, competitions and winning games, you get to connect the dots and finally understand the connection of the logo design with Greek mythology. And doesn’t that all make so much sense now? We know that it does! ✔️
Having said that, we would also like to talk about how the logo design is still so simple that not only does it stand out everywhere but it is also very versatile as well so, whoever wants to use it (for branding, promotions, collaborations and whatnot) can use it without having to rescale it and working on other complicated stuff as well. And do you want to know what’s the best part about the logo design? Well, it not only attracts athletes and other sportspeople but it also attracts those who would like to utilize Nike products for their day-to-day life as well. Now, that’s something that tells us that the logo is a hit and will continue to serve the brand in many, many years to come too.
