As you guys know that logos are the face of a brand and they play a crucial role in establishing brand identity and recognition. One design technique that has gained popularity in recent years is the use of negative space. Negative space refers to the empty or unmarked areas around and between the main subjects in a design. It is a powerful tool that can create hidden imagery and add depth to a logo. Allow us to share in detail what a negative space logo is so that you guys can fully understand the technique and eventually utilize it to create amazing logo designs in the near future.
As we have mentioned that negative space logos are a type of logo design technique that utilizes the space around and between the main elements of a design to create an additional image or meaning. The concept of negative space refers to the unoccupied or empty space surrounding an object or between multiple objects.
In negative space logo design, the empty space is strategically manipulated to form a secondary image or message that enhances the overall composition and visual impact of the logo. The use of negative space can result in clever and visually appealing logos that engage viewers by presenting hidden or double meanings.

A classic example of a negative space logo is the FedEx logo. At first, it appears to be a simple wordmark in purple and orange. However, if you look closely at the space between the ‘E’ and ‘x,’ you will notice an arrow pointing to the right. This clever use of negative space subtly conveys the idea of speed, direction and lastly, efficiency which aligns with FedEx’s business of delivering packages quickly and reliably.
Negative space logos require careful consideration and skilful execution to ensure that the secondary image or message is clear and easy to understand too. They can be an effective way to create memorable and thought-provoking designs that leave a lasting impression on the target audience or people in general. Earlier this week, when we were working on our content list, we needed to share something different with you guys so we started doing our research on negative space logos and we were pleasantly surprised to see that creative people are now using the technique to incorporate other elements in their logo designs to make something even more appealing.
