To make every promotional content or material work in your favor, you guys need to define its purpose. For example; the square signboard that you are going to be working on could be used for wayfinding, to deliver some sort of information or you wish to display it outside your small and cozy coffee shop. By going through this exercise, you will be able to stay on the right track and make informed decisions.

The next thing that you need to do is to make sure that you are keeping your signboard designs simple and real. Don’t get overwhelmed during the brainstorming sessions as that can impact your creativity and there is a very strong chance that you will have to rework everything from scratch (and we are sure that you guys don’t want that to happen!). Also, always remember that a clutter free signboard is more likely to be noticed as compared to the one that has a lot of information in the design.

Next, go for a strong color palette and note that by strong here, we do not mean vibrant or bright for that matter. Bear in mind that your color palette has to display the text as well as the supporting visual elements in the design so intelligently pick colors that can be read easily; even from a distance. We would also like to suggest you guys consult color psychology to understand the colors in a better way. As far as the typography is concerned, you guys will have to choose fonts that are legible. For example; Sans-serif fonts happen to be super legible even if you are reading something from a distance so it is always a good idea to incorporate Sans-serif fonts into your designs. In addition to that, you must ensure that the text size is appropriate and compliments the overall look and feel of the design. Spacing is another crucial element of any design so, you will have to make sure that it is on point as well.

Another important and crucial aspect of designing anything is how you place the information in the design or in easy-to-understand words; the hierarchy of information so, based on the importance of information, prioritize it in the design and you can also try different fonts and styles in order to create a visual hierarchy. Lastly, pick eye-catching and relevant imagery for your square signage and you will be good to go. 😉
